Character Interview: Benito Enrique Garcia from In Search of Lucy

BB: Tell us your name and a little bit about yourself.

BG: My name is Benito Enrique Garcia but everyone just calls me Benny. I’ve got five brothers –I’m fourth in the lineup-no sisters. Even though we were pretty rowdy growing up, we were always taught to respect and take care of women. Right now I’m doing stand-up comedy and just hangin with my two girls: Lucy and Anne.

BB: What role do you play in your book?

BG: Basically I’m like big brother to Lucy Lang. She’s had a tough life and an even tougher time trying to find herself and relate to others. Luckily she has me cuz I’m so laid back and funny, of course.

BB: How did you meet your author?

BG: Lucy and I both live in the same apartment building. I pretty much know everyone there. I love to meet new people, but Lucita (that’s my name for her) is one of my favorites.

BB: Do you get along with your author?

BG: Like I said, Lucy is one of my favorite people. Still trying to figure out why since she’s such a pain in the ass. But, we do seem to get along pretty well. I’m a shoulder to cry on and I provide a few laughs to cheer her up.

BB: Is this your first role in a publication?

BG: Yes. This is the first time I’ve had the honor to be in a book. I think I add a lot of flavor to a story that could be pretty sad at times.

BB: Do you plan on returning in other books?

BG: Someone should want me somewhere. I’m Benny!

BB: Do you like how you were written?

BG: Love it. I mean I’m sweet, funny, caring and I sound pretty hot. She did say I could stand to lose a few pounds, but I don’t agree.

BB: What is the most interesting thing that happened to you in this book?

BG: Well, we took a road trip to get Lucy to her sister Katie. Lucy was donating a kidney to Katie and Anne and I went with her. On the road we ended up picking up this kid, Chad. Then later our car broke down on the side of the road. Some crazy sh*t, I mean stuff happened but it ended up being a pretty cool adventure.

BB: Who is your favorite character in your book, besides yourself? Why?

BG: That would be my Lucita of course. Even though we were just friends I just couldn’t help feeling so close to her. If Mr. Perfect, Kyle hadn’t come along and messed it up, then we might have had a chance.

BB: Is there anything we should know about you that we haven't been told in your book?

BG: Read the book and you’ll see. I’m out there. I just try to be honest and have a good time.

BB: How do you feel about the way your story ended?

BG: Well, let’s just say that I think readers will be very happy with the ending.

BB: Thanks for chatting with us Benny. It's been fun. If you'd like to learn more about Benny, check out In Search of Lucy by Lia Fairchild.

Book Description: Thirty-year-old Lucy Lang is lost. She spent most of her young life sacrificing her own needs to care for her half-sister and deal with their alcoholic mother. Now abandoned by both of them, Lucy struggles to find her own purpose in life; a struggle that is laden with wretched memories and regret. With no family, no relationships and an unfulfilling job Lucy becomes depressed, cynical and self-destructive. At times she'd even contemplated suicide as the only way out.
When she is just about to hit rock bottom, Lucy finds out that her sister is ill and needs a kidney transplant. Lucy is found to be the only match, and has no choice but to live. Lucy is now trapped in a lonely existence to save her sister's life. And, she must battle with her emotions; her bitter resentment for her sister's heartless departure and her longing to be needed again and take care of the person she once loved most in the world. With the help of new found friends, Benny and Anne, and a possible romance, Lucy sets out on a journey to reunite with her sister and search for the answers she needs to find her own purpose in life.
