Author Interview: Samantha Drane, author of Twist of Fate

Tell us what made you decide to write this particular story.
To be completely honest, this novel had a life of it's own. I created this novel day by day. I did not know how this book was going to end until I actually wrote it.

Was it difficult to write, or did it all come to you at once.
It was a little bit of both. Most of the early chapters came all at once, and the end of the book was considerably harder to write.

How did you come up with your character names?
In most vampire/supernatural novels (at least ones that I have read) the characters have very regal, majestic even old-fashioned names. I wanted to keep it as modern as possible.

Do you prefer to write in just one genre or do you like to bounce around genres?
I would prefer to stay within the paranormal/sci-fi genre, but anything that I write, I like to write with a strong female voice. I believe that is what makes me stand out a bit from other writers.

Do you read the same genre that you write about?
Yes I totally do! I will fully admit that I am a science fiction/supernatural/paranormal addict. I was always told that I should write what I know, and I believe that I have a decent grasp of the Sci-Fi world.

How do your family and Friends feel about your writing?
They have been totally supportive from day one. I have two daughters, three cats and a very busy husband to deal with, so concessions were graciously made for me to be able to write during the day. I love them all for it.

What is the craziest thing you have ever done to promote your writing? Did it work?
Sadly, I haven't done anything totally wild and crazy to promote my book. It's not me.

Have you been compared to any other authors? Do you agree with the comparison?
I haven't been compared to any other authors yet, but I think if my name popped up alongside someone like Laurell K. Hamilton, I will be blown away. I truly enjoy her books and I think she's a wonderful author.

Do you enjoy fanmail? If so, where do you prefer to receive your fanmail?
I would love fanmail. If and when I receive some, I would love it to pop up in my email. I check it at least twice a day, so it would be a pleasant surprise.

Why should we read your book?
I definitely think you should read Twist of Fate, because aside from the love story it deals with an abusive relationship and the strength of a woman's heart and soul. This is the first book in a series and I personally can't wait to see what happens next.
